Note: this article describes a technical scenario, representative of the type of migration project we regularly support - it does not identify a specific client.
Technically, migrating an analogue CCTV system to IP is a well-understood process. The real challenge arises when the building cannot shut down during the works - a common scenario in offices, industrial plants in full production or retail spaces with continuous opening hours.
The continuity problem
Switching off the entire analogue system before the new IP system is operational leaves the building without security coverage during the transition - unacceptable in most contexts. The alternative is a phased migration, zone by zone, always keeping a minimum level of coverage active.
How a phased migration is structured
Typically, the first step is to install the new Bosch IP recorder in parallel with the existing analogue system, connecting the first IP cameras in the least critical areas. Only once operation has been validated does the work move on to the sensitive areas, replacing the analogue cameras with IP units and, wherever possible, reusing the existing cabling infrastructure by means of converters.
What you gain beyond image quality
Beyond higher resolution, migrating to Bosch IP brings built-in video analytics and future integration with access control or fire detection - capabilities that an analogue system simply cannot support.
AVPRO supports this type of project from planning the phasing through to training the security team on the new system. Talk to us before planning your migration.
