The most significant difference between Genetec Security Center and a traditional VMS (video management system) is not image quality - it is unification. A traditional VMS manages video. Security Center manages video, access control (via Synergis) and automatic licence plate recognition on a single platform, with a single operator workstation and a single event database.
What this means in practice
In an installation with separate VMS and access control systems, a security operator has to manually cross-reference a door forced open alarm with the cameras in that area. In Security Center, this cross-referencing is automatic: the access control event already comes with the relevant video attached, with no need to correlate systems.
Scalability without changing platform
A project that starts with video surveillance alone can evolve into unified access control, and later into licence plate recognition, without replacing the platform - simply by adding modules.
